Four pickup trucks are parked in a silent line outside the school building. Lights shine through the classroom windows, making spots in the night. People are doing things: welding, sewing, crafting wood and fabric painting.

In all these classes, adults learn also learn how to run their own business so that they can earn extra money.

It’s part of the Hantam Community Trust’s main aim: to offer skills, opportunities and support until people are self-sustaining. The Trust does this over and over again, for many people, but there is one voice worth listening to.

Over 80 people participate in after-hours skills training every year.
As a result of these classes, at least 20 people now run their own small businesses to supplement their income.
Most trainees pay for materials used by selling their work, which teaches trainees vital costing principles and saves us money in the long run.
